Configuration files goes into /etc
Manpages goes into /man
Binary files goes into /bin
Libraries goes into /lib

And there are also some more but these are the main dirs. By default they have the /usr/local-prefix which makes all binaries go to /usr/local/bin, etc. This may be altered in many ways but this is the POSIX default anyway.
