Where does initrd file comes from?

Is initrd image a part of a kernel?

If I compile new minimalistic kernel, will the appropriate initrd image be created and be minimalistic also?

Thanks.

Short answer: run the "mkinitrd" command.

Cute---but if it's a "mummy" and not a "mommy", I think the outcome will be different......
