Where did all my stuff go??

Ok, so I installed the correct ATI drrivers for Linux the other day, and after I reboot...POOF!... all my options are gone...when I click on my menu, all my icons are gone (networking, games, config, etc), to be replaced by like 3 options represented by folders....I cant seem to find any of the stuff I installed. I cant pull up a web browser, email, a config window, nothing...the option to do so isn't even there. Can anyone help? I even re-installed 2x, then instaled my vid drivers again only to find the same result.

Can I ask you to mention the distro you're using along with your machine specs?

SoliTear 02-06-2004 07:38 AM

which distribution are you using?
which desktop environment are you using?

answers to those will help. in Mandrake 9.2 you can sign in as root and one of the menus has a configure desktop where you can get to the Menu tool which will rebuild the menu.

Wow,...that was quick...thanks...

I'm using 9.2 with an Nf2 board, XP 2400+, 512mb.....

I'm using KDE...

How would I rebuild the menu as root?

Thanks!

I had the same exact problem with Mandrake 9.2 and I also had to ask for help.
This is how my problem was resolved:
1. Control + Alt + f2 brings up a terminal.
2. Type in the following command ( update-menus -v) without the brackets.
3. This should put all your menu items back. Hopefully.
4. Control+ Alt + f7 closes the terminal

Hope it works

Should I log in as root for that?

I was able to fix the problem as a normal user.

Cool, I'll try it...thanks!
