Where are the new installed programs

I've figured out an RPM and how to install programs (I think) but when we do, how come they don't show up in the menus? Is there a way to add them to the menu?

Sure thats pretty simple (sometimes)...lol..to help everyone out please give the following information.

What linux did you install? Fedora, RedHat, Mandrake, SuSe, Gentoo, ect...
That of Processor you have? AMD Athlon or Pentium

How did you install the RPM file?? Double clicking in the GUI or by the terminal?

Just need a little information so I can help you out better. Also if you could tell me the RPM file name.

Again, tell your distribution if needed. Probably, you need
to find the control center (in menu under system?) and/or
the menu edtior. And add the link in. Alternatively, create
some icons on your desktop.

Thanks for the reply.

I installed k12ltsp which is based on Fedora. I'm running it with a 1.3 ghz AMD processor w/128 mb ram.
I installed thr rpms using the terminal. It probably be useful to know my goal is to install moodle on it.
I've got a brand new install now. I just reformatted and reinstalled after corrupting my original install with bad LAMPP installs. If I told it to start lampp it would tell me that Apache was already running. If I told it to shut down Apache it would tell me it was already shut down.

If I can fet Mysql and PHP and Mysqladmin running I'll be o.k. On the previous install I could get a page to open with http:localhost but I can't now with this new install. If I run http://127.0.0.1 I get error that "the connection was refused". This was from root user.

If I run locate mysql.sock I don't get any response.
If I run service mysqld start I get "mysqld: unrecognized service".
The same for apache and php start.

Is there another way to check if lampp is running? If it isn't running, whynot. How do I start them? The last time I installed xampp and it didn't seemed to work. Should I install xampp ?

Thanks
