Where are the config files for X terminals ?
(I'm not a total newbie but I feel like one.)
I do as much of my work on command lines as I can and I customize the terminal window profiles for fonts and colours. But I've never known how to save this info to transfer to a new installation. At the moment I'm using a build of debian lenny but I guess that the name of the file is probably the same across most distros, even if the location varies. Thanks in advance ... |
/etc/X11
I checked Kubuntu, RH 9, and, RH EL 4, and that's the directory.

terminal config files not being read
When I checked I found the files in ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/ rather than /etc/X11/. All looked good, and I saved these files for when I did a reinstall.
But now I've installed Ubuntu (still 7.10) on a new machine and copied over the ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/ dir from the old machine to the new (and rebooted, several times). But when I click on Edit > Profiles on a terminal window I still only get the Default offered; the files for my customized terminals don't show up at all. I've checked permissions and ownerships -- they include all the ones as for Default. Here is the dir listing: 4 drwxrwxrwx 2 khave 4096 2008-09-12 16:55 Black@32@on@32@pale@32@blue 4 drwxrwxrwx 2 khave 4096 2008-06-24 11:11 Black@32@on@32@pale@32@green 4 drwxrwxrwx 2 khave 4096 2008-06-24 12:20 Blue@32@on@32@black 4 drwx------ 2 khave 4096 2008-09-12 11:11 Default 0 -rwxrwxrwx 1 khave 0 2008-09-12 16:55 %gconf.xml 4 drwxrwxrwx 2 khave 4096 2008-06-24 12:18 Green@32@ob@32@black 4 drwxrwxrwx 2 khave 4096 2008-06-24 11:13 Xperiment 4 drwxrwxrwx 2 khave 4096 2008-06-24 12:18 Yellow@32@on@32@black Can anyone see what's wrong ? How does one reinitialize the terminals (and why doesn't it happen when I reboot)? K |
