Unhappy Where's Device Manager????!

Working on trying to install 3c509tpo card that was not recognized during install of RH 6.2.

What are the steps to :

1) find and install the driver
2) tell the machine were the card /driver/settings are?

In general...how do you install new (mabey non pnp) hardware?

http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO.html

best howto on ethernet cards...
www.linuxdoc.org - lots of other howto's..

I usually don't tell people to RTFM but your last question is kind of a broad question and the ethernet howto is easy to follow in getting that card working for ya cause I don't feel like repeating the howto when you can just follow the link... anymore specific questions come on back.. !!!

The 3Com 509 ISA card. Getting ISA to work is always a pain, but not with this card.

cat /proc/interrupts

Look at the list of taken IRQs and select one that isn't taken.

modprobe 3c509 irq=x

Where x is the interrupt you have free. You may have to try multiple interrupts to get this to work.

ifconfig ethx up

Where x is the number of what NIC this is in the machine. If its the only one: eth0.

'netconfig' should help you set its IP address however you want to, but I don't go in for the cute RH tools, so you might want to just use ifconfig for this or dhcpcd depending on what you want it to do.

Cheers,

Finegan
