When Wine doesn't Cooperate?
I've tried to install a program called Wintrade trough Wine on my Ubuntu. It's a Windows program and a "must" for installing the program, is a Windows OS. I've now installed it through Wine and the installing worked out fine, it is now located in Wine-programs. But when i open the program, i can see it starts a program because it says "starting wintrade" in the bottom panel, but after a few seconds it closes down again and nothing happens. I've tried to find an answer to this action on wines homepage, but i can't seem to find anything.
The program is directly connected to my bank, so i can't just use another program instead. They don't have an alternative program for a Linux OS. Is there another way (a different program maybe) to make windows programs work on Linux? Or can I do something with Wine that maybe solves the problem? |
Check the Wine troubleshooting guide.
http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/G...roubleshooting Is it like this: https://www.nordnet.lu/mux/web/nordnet/wintrade.html You could try Crossover - also from Codeweavers. Or changing banks. Alternatively, you can try running windows in a VM, or dual-boot. |

http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/U...e_Command_Line Your second option would be to play a bit around with wine configuration files. Open a terminal and type winecfg. Example here: http://wiki.winehq.org/winecfg You could try changing, for example, which OS it will try to "emulate", like WinXP or Win98. Sometimes you may get lucky :) Another option you have is to try other applications instead of wine. Here are some alternatives: http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/alternatives Personally, if I need a Windows application to run 100% correctly, I would just dual boot with Windows or run Windows inside Linux with a virtual machine, such as Virtuabox. Good luck! |
