When will the next ubuntu launch?

Hi...
I am just wondering when will the next ubuntu distro launch.
Is updating Ubuntu 5.10 to Ubuntu 6.06 possible? What is the size of the update? I have a horribly slow net connection, so I am thinking of ordering the CD. I heard that it takes six to ten weeks to have it delivered. If the next distro comes before that, then I am at loss. Please help. Is using Ubuntu 6.06 easier as compared to Ubuntu 5.10?

Thanks in advance..
Karthik

Hi maverick,

I'd been using Ubuntu for quite a while until recently. Yes, you can upgrade even now if you'd like to test Edgy. The very basic way to do this is to modify your sources list(change all dappers to edgy) and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade". However, I wouldn't recommend doing this until the stable version is out. Despite many people not having an issue with the unstable Edgy at this time, it's still in development. Edgy will be out within the next week or so as far as I know.

The update will take a while as it's at around 700mb(give or take) at this point.

Yes, you can have the cds sent and in some cases, it can take up to six to ten weeks. However, when I had 6.06 sent, delivery didn't take any longer than a month.

Hi Wrabbit..
Thank you very much for your reply. That solved my problems.

I did an upgrade from breezy (5.10) to dapper (6.06) and it worked well. Some people reported problems, but I didn't have any. It just downloaded a bunch of packages, installed them and I rebooted into a nice new version.

Edgy (6.10) is slated for release on October 26th.

Of course, before you upgrade anything, BACKUP!
