Part of your problem is that Fedora 8 is past it's end of life

and has been UNSUPPORTED for a year .

install fedora 11 or an extended life distro like Debain or CentOS or RHEL

Thanks for ur posts, but now i am in a position to use my fc8 and i cannot upgrade it atleast for time being.. i have successfully configured mysql in fc6 and i believe i should be able to do it in fc 8 as well. my question is, "is mysql.so created soon after the installation of mysql or do i need to install openser, to get mysql.so file"

Thanks a ton!!!

It should be created during the install.

I'm running Slackware with standard mysql install (not compiled) and it's there. As far as I know, openser is not installed (a locate only reveals a readme referring to cdrtools)

So I assume that when compiling mysql, it should be created (or maybe it's part of the package, not sure).

You need the DBD:mysql perl module from cpan, along with its dependencies.
