When booting from a CD I can't boot from my root partition.

My root is at /dev/hda8, I'd like to boot from this, but I can't from the slackware CD or knoppix. The slackware isn't live CD just the install disk. The first is the knoppix command and second is the slackware command

knoppix root=/dev/hda8
bare.i root=/dev/hda

I've tried with the parameters noinitrd, ro, but nothing. What's wrong?

Slackware's "bare.i root=/dev/hda8 (add the 8) noinitrd ro

I did that but when I type df it says the FS on / (root) is fd2. hda8 is ext2

If after booting with knoppix, you can mount /dev/hda8 somewhere, use the chroot command to change the root drive location. Then fix up your lilo or grub so you can boot normally.
