What wireless program does Ubuntu 8.10 use?

I have no problem getting Ubuntu 8.10, Xubuntu 8.10 or even Linux Mint 6 to connect to my wifi, but a lot of distros use this Wicd Network Manager program which I've never been able to work. What network manager or wireless manager does Ubuntu use? Thought I try installing it on these other distros to see if that'll work. Thanks.

I think it may use network-manager. But I never had any luck with it in Debian. I just do configuration from the command line. I've heard good things about wicd, but don't think it comes on Ubuntu by default.

How do you configure your wifi using a command line? I trying Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE. I had no problem connecting with Linux Mint 6 Main and XFCE sees my wifi card OK. How do I test if my driver is installed? Maybe that's the problem. Thanks.

Why don't you tell us what wireless card you have ? you might be missing card firmware or something which is causing the failure.

Personally I think wicd rocks I like it much better than network-manager or kwifimanager.
