I think none of the (recent) releases of either one of those will run smoothly, are you really in need of 1 of those 2 distro's or can you consider trying another distro?
Any version should work, but you may want to turn down the effects and the services running. Also, you will want to examine the possibilities with regards to desktop environments or window manager. The RAM is the limiting factor, so choose your programs carefully.

I just wanted an easy interface and my colleagues just have a collection of FC and Mandrake.

I tried installing Fedora Core 4 and Mandrake 10, but both froze during a part in the installation. So I thought lower versions should be better for my PC.
Your machine is fine and should handle either one of those distros OK, but you might want to go with one of the 'lighter' window managers. 128K RAM is not bad, but of the specs you listed it would be the most likely gating factor in terms of performance assuming you're running typical desktop apps (Email, Internet, etc). I've got a P III @ 600Mz with 192Mg RAM and a 40G drive running Slackware 10.2 and it is just fine. Good luck with it
