What to use for a RTOS solution?
 

In the beginning there were few choices with respect to what language or hardware to use. Now if you believe the advertising each environment is better than the next. Now to my question, what programming solution would you recommend for an embedded system?
I need RTOS whether qusi or real and should the language be C or a visual,or? Don’t bother trying to explain RTOS, bin there done that, no pun intended. I’m a long time user of nixs, UNIX, QNX and a little Linux. I’ve written a ton of specifications and requirements.
These questions are for a manufacturing system that I’m building. Help!

When we were doing some robotics work in the late 90's, we had a VxWorks system that worked pretty well. Haven't done much work in that arena since then, but a former colleague says they now use QNX or VxWorks regularly.

If you know QNX then why change? We still use vxworks and qnx and Seimens and windows products.

Linux has a open kernel choice too. It should be standard in the current kernel I believe if you enable it.

It may be more about the hardware and what you need to do with all of this.

We have gone away from qnx and use windows since the computers are faster. You could set processes to almost any priority you want up to real time. Most processes don't need real time action anyway.

Could look at other stuff like Menuetos.

Thanks guys for the help, and I apologize for the slow get back. With regard to QNX and my RTOS problem. For the prototype QNX will serve nicely. It is fully developed and robust. I tend to over develop rather than making it work first before refining the thing. I can rethink the final system needs later.
