What to do with SANE?

Good Afternoon :)

I am trying to get my scanner to work with Mandriva. It's a Lexmark X73. I found the "back end" on SANE-projects.org and downloaded it.

Now what? I've been reading different posts here, but haven't found the "how to" explained as specifically as I need. I'm pretty much lost (or a coward) when I get the the bash prompt.

Would someone mind holding Gammaw's hand and sl-o-o-o-wly walk me thru each step?

Thankx to anyone who can help or wishes they could!

I have a very limited experience with scanners, maybe because my cheap old one just works. Usually, I only do this:

- Open a terminal and type:
su
modprobe scanner
xsane

Nothing more, nothing less. You need to have sane and xsane installed. Odd that your Mandrake installation didn't have both installed by default.

I'm afraid I can't give more help then this, but I wish you luck though :)

Regards!

Thanks for the guidance. It told me I didn't have any scanners installed.(?) It recognizes the printer, but not the scanner (it's an all-in-one printer). The good news is, I was able to do the sane and xsane thing. I have a pretty good handle on the "insane" thing too!

I'll keep reading and playing. Thanks for the support!

You're welcome Gammaw. Sorry I could not be more helpful. But let us know how it turns out for ya. All-in-one devices are pretty popular today and I bet more peoples could use a solution, if you find one :)

Best of luck!
