What things do I have to take into account before installing MD 10.1CE?
Hello peeps
I've recently upgraded my machine and in the past, have always had a Windows/Linux (Mandrake )dual boot config. Now with my new spec some questions have arisen: 1. I have 2 SATA HDD. Will MD 10.1 automatically find these as normal drives or will I be required to provide drivers on a floppy disk? 2. 64-bit Processor. I have just downloaded the three MD 10.1 iso's from an FTP server. I know there is a Mandrake 10.1 x64 but does this natively support 64-bit chips as well (or do I need to download x64 isos - and where from)? Thank you for any advice. (Also what is the main differences between the official/community editions?) --------------------------------------------------- edit: Currently grabbing iso's from: ftp.phys.ttu.edu folder: /pub/mandrakelinux/devel/iso/10.1/i586/ |
I would suggest that you check on the Mandrake website or Forums about SATA drives coz I know some distros don't play along nicely with SATA.

1. Mandrake *should* recognize your SATA drives. If it doesn't, or you have other problems, I would suggest posting specific questions in the Mandrake Distro forum here, or at the Mandrake Users Board.
2. The standard download edition of Mandrake will work just fine in a 64-bit machine. The AMD64 chip natively supports 32-bit apps (and OSes). ;) Mandrake *does* have a 64-bit version, but IIRC, it is currently a "pay for" item. :( |
Here is some good information about the status of Linux SATA support.
