What things can you do in linux to reduce computer power consumtion?

I am already using a tool for underclocking the CPU to half its capacity and the custom linux distro is running all in ram taking up 200MB of the 500 MB total.

Its really good right now but is there a way to make it consume even less power?

Also is it true that running a linux distro in ram is less computer power consumtion?

It is running on a terminal only so that means it uses very little of my video card capacity.

If you only run console apps you're probably hardly ever hitting
the disk ... so you should be able to have those spin down (except
for logging events - depending on how active the machine is in
this respect the spin-down of the drive may be a no-show).

I don't think I have any conclusive answers for you - sorry about that

Cheers,
Tink

Get a SSD, solid state uses less power consumption than regular HDD if I remember correctly. Though they can be costly it does reduce power, which might pay for itself? Hah who knows, but it'd be good to look into.
