Hi,

there is no such incomprehensibly thing like registry in Linux.

The configuration files for Linux software is normally located in /etc. User specific configuration files are normally located in users home directory in a subdirectory or file beginning with a .

I suggest you reading http://tldp.org/LDP/Linux-Filesystem...Hierarchy.html to get an overview on how linux filesystem is organized and what files are to find where.

bro there is no registry in linux,

do u know what registry is ??

It's universal hierarchial configuration store,

windows do this by registry,

but in linux GConf is used to do the same

no it is not the same.

GConf is a system for storing application preferences. It is intended for user preferences; not configuration of something like Apache, or arbitrary data storage.

windows registry:
It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings

How odd, I don't have gconf and my machines work just fine ... ? =D

no no actually its not essentially needed,

It is just architected and designed for desktop applications only by its developers who whishlists to make it system global, but a lot in the essential design will have to change, making it practically a new system.

Sorry, that was meant to be irony. I'm aware of gconf, just
meant to point out that it's in no way the equivalent of the
windows registry in Linux as your post stated.

Cheers,
