What Linux OS is best suited to a sony C1VE picturebook?

Hi everyone,

i'm a total newbie when in comes to linux so i decided to install it on my laptop (which has Win ME at the moment, so it cant get worse). i've been googling for a few hours and i've seen promising websites but there are so many options out there i cant make my mind up.

i guess the essential needs would be:

support for the weird transmeta processor (i've heard of a longrun app but i heard it might not work on certain operating systems)

ease of installing drivers for all those sony widgets (camera, jog dial etc)

in my defence i fully expect to wrestle with this for a few days (and thats part of the fun) but i figure that i should at least get the first step right.

thanks in advance.

Nathan

I'd suggest OpenSuSE or Ubuntu. OpenSuSE 11 has support for certain Sony Vaio and IBM Thinkpad gadgets, out of the box. Things like the MemoryStick slot, some function keys, etc. I prefer OpenSuSE though, but don't hesitate to try other distros, too, and see which one 'fits' best.

Thanks

Cheers for that i'll check it out, but i probably will be trying a lot of distributions. i've looked into specific hardware issues and there seems to be piecemeal solutions to a lot of problems but i cant seem to find a solution for the suspend/resume function of the laptop (im not sure whether this is an issue with installing linux on any oldish laptop or sony laptop in general, but does anyone know of a solution, or even a common solution for laptops in general?

thanks a lot
