What linux distro for my HP Compaq nw8240

Hi This is my hardware:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...f1-462857.html

I have the 15.4" WUXGA (res 1920x1200)

I am failing to install SUSE beyond the "Boot to Hard drive; "Installation" window; the DVD just hangs; I have installed SUSE 10 to my other laptop with no problem so I know that the DVD is not the problem.

Also I have tried installing Ubuntu (second time) and I get as far as installing packages to the hard drive, then suddenly stops with error" run out of disc space" ( iave more than adequate disc (15G) on this partition.

I know I could get all the way with the ubuntu installation, but then I could not get to the boot screen because it was totally wiered shaky with black and white lines and sometimes becoming completely white I think X.org could set a res for the GUI login.

I was wondering if anyone has installed Linux on this system with ease and if so which one and how to get the installation going. (linux on laptops has a same amchine with Ubuntu and Fedora core 3 which I followed.

any other suggestions. Please help.

Yeah, google for linux/laptops someone does run a site all about that. You might find something specific there. Plus I understood that laptops/tft screens must be set to the screens native resolution or they can "play up". You'd have to get that from the system spec in the instruction book or online I suspect.

I tried them all: Ubuntu installed and I struggled to death to the get the ATI grphics card going; MEPIS just does not go beyond the section where the "splashy screen" the screen collapses into a white dusts (even in failsafe); I got to install SUSE 10 in failsafe mode, and got into the GUI with 1024x768 res on VESA. I struggled also to get the ATI card working, but finally got it working perfectly: see this http://en.opensuse.org/ATI_Driver_HOWTO

If only I had done my homework before I could have saved myself a tone of time!

Anyway, someone can benefit;

All other hardware SUSE has recognized as far as I can see (have not tried the SD card); Hot keys are always a problem with linux so volume control/mute button not owrking.

Thanks so much,
SL
