what is wheel???
Hey all. I have seen the term "wheel" several times now. Mopst recently in /etc/security/access.conf
Does any one know what this wheel entry is. Just looking for a general answer, not specific to the file listed above. Thanks! If this isn't enough info, sorry. |
It is name of the group on your Linux system. You use it to put your users in it if you want to give them some extra permissions without much power...:)
Check /etc/group |
thanks Axe, could you go a little more in depth perhaps with an example???

on redhat systems(and i haven't used redhat for a long while, so take this with a grain of salt) but users in the wheel group are allowed to su to root from their terminals

Something like that. I am not realy sure what else it is used for but I usualy put myself into this group when I create account. Maybe try su root with user not in this group and with different user which is member of this group and see the difference. |
