What is the quickest install for VWnc/VIP

Trying to break Windows dependency.
I require Arch only to boot VisualWorks Smalltalk or Visual Prolog.
Both are fully self contained OO IDE's, need barest min. Linux.
My Std. Arch installations are Ok, but am totally linux ignorant.
Gratefull for any help.
Stumped
