Question what is the procedure for copying files(in this case a fulldump & backup) onto dvd

what would be the correct procedure and coding for copying files onto dvd
via the dvd writer on our system. The files in question are a fulldump & backup for a particular day. When we attempted this the first time(this fulldump & backup are written to tape at present) the dvd appeared to accept the files but then stopped before "burning"the data onto the dvd.

Welcome to LQ!

Post the full output of the commands you ran and the errors that were output. It would also be helpful to post your Linux distribution, kernel, etc. Good help comes from good information given ...

DVD Writing

we have found a solution to our original problem with the "burning" of the dvd not working - this was caused by not having a large enough u-limit which was not big enough to take the iso-image)
our problem now is copying files across to the dvd so we can have a copy of the system to take away on dvd as a "disaster recovery copy"
to copy to on a daily basis and, if possible, have a weeks' copies on each dvd.
