what is the meaning of HCF and HSF for modems?


how can i know if a modem is HCF or HSF?

From my understanding, HCF is a hardware controllerless modem as a HSF is a software controlled modem.

Check with your manufacturer to find out what kind of modem you have or chipset it has if your not for sure.

ic....... hmmmmmmm how about external modems? does this also applies on them?

Well what is the diferance then hardware controlerless, means it is software controled, right?

Both HCF and HSF modems are in the winmodem class.

How to tell depends on the chipset which should be in the spec sheet for the modem.

Does not apply to external modems since they require actual RS-232 hardware to talk to the PC's serial communications port.
