i had executed /sbin/reboot

to reboot the machine.Could u please tell me how much time does it take to reboot?do we get any messages on the screen while rebooting.

i feel that the system has struck because i am not getting any messages while rebooting as we get on windows machine.

and more over i am getting a pop up message saying connection timed out.

Is my reboot going successfully ?

It takes a minute or so. Is your keyboard working at the moment? What happens if you try ctrl-c?

If you can get your command prompt back, try

shutdown -r now

Otherwise, I think you may need to hit the reset button.

Looks like you need physical access to the machine which I presume has a reset button/power button or the like
