Hi, i was working distantly with my linux machine, went afk and when i came back, i got this in my putty window:

And the result is that the system restarted. How's ubuntu restarting by itself??

Probably a virus on the Windows host you're running putty on, anyway ;-) Just dump Windows and stick with Ubuntu - you'll be fine ;-)

I don't think paulsm4 is joking, isn't Putty running on Windozz? I never use it but it look like it sent the reboot signal to your Ubuntu (easy to do that with SSH).

Something sent the reboot command to ubuntu using root privileges. Either your windows machine is compromised or you linux box is compromised.

I cannot tell from your screen shot but you should never allow direct remote login for root. Login in remotely as a user and su - or sudo over into root.
