2. Yes you can. I thought you're running redhat huh?. To configure the httpd service to start up at boot time using an initscript utility, such as /sbin/chkconfig, /sbin/ntsysv, or the Services Configuration tool program. I thought that mysql can be added also this way ...correct me if i'm wrong.

Hope that all works for you now..[sleepy me edit again]
Nope. Still can't work. It is not showing on screen when running the phpinfo.php. Can't find out why.

Yes, I am running RH 8.0 but I am new to Linux. Just starting learning from RH8.0 manual a week ago. Okay, will try to see if I can configure it to running during booting. Btw, I am having problem with running apache as it requires me to key in the passphrase. How do I disable it? Otherwise I will not be able to execute it automatically.

Thanks!

Regards

Hmm no you can't actually with this cerficate. You'll need to skip the passwd part by pressing enter....

You'll need to make new certificates ....

Well at this point, try first to get php working properly.....
make a file named index.php and add these lines below:

<?php
echo "Working";
?>

Close it and put it into the htdocs dir. Then open your browser and point to: http://localhost/index.php

If the screen is still blanc, check the source code from the page, to see whether the text "Working" exists or not ..

Let me know ..

If just add the above code in the index.php, when run it, it shows the entire code on screen. But if I add in the header like:

<html>
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<?php
echo "Working";
?>
</html>

Then it will show a blank screen.
And I check the source for this, it has the above code.

Ok next, check the rights on the /usr/local/apache/htdocs
it should look like this:

drwxr-xr-x 4 apache apache 128 2003-09-06 13:24 htdocs

cd /usr/local/apache/
Which is equal to: chmod 755 -R htdocs/

The [world] should get R and X rights to make it work properly...

Hope this helps

Check and confirm that it has the rights as you have described.
drwxr-xr-x

What should I check next as I tried and still not showing correctly for the index.php.

cd into the dir where all files resides and print the output of ls -al on your next message. I'm in a doubt, whether you've done this steps below, can you verify this for me?

LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so
AddModule mod_php4.c

<IfModule mod_dir.c>
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php index.php3 index.phtml
</IfModule>

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

It all seems fine... To get the most recent error message (if there are any) connect to localhost/index.php. Now send me the last 100 lines of error_log from apache by typing:

tail -n100 /usr/local/apache/log/error_log

It really seems like that the php module from apache isn't loaded at all ...

Tried but no error.log shown ...Any possible way to debug? I mean trace why there is no link with php.

Please advice.

Now what ??

Have you already re-started apache ?

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl stop
/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start

Does it give error's on startup?
Does it work after a restart of apache ? I do not assume that you've restarted apache, when making modifications to the configs right?

Yes. I have tried stopping and restarting as well as rebooting the entire server. It is still the same. No error in starting or stopping.

[root@www root]# /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl stop
/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl stop: httpd stopped
[root@www root]# /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl startssl
Apache/1.3.27 mod_ssl/2.8.14 (Pass Phrase Dialog)
Some of your private key files are encrypted for security reasons.
In order to read them you have to provide us with the pass phrases.

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl startssl: httpd started
[root@www root]# tail -n100 /usr/local/apache/log/error.log
tail: /usr/local/apache/log/error.log: No such file or directory
[root@www root]# tail -n100 /usr/local/apache/log/error.log
tail: /usr/local/apache/log/error.log: No such file or directory
