GRand Unified Bootloader

It is a(better?) alternative to lilo (LInux LOader).

melinda_sayang 12-13-2004 09:53 AM

the best boot loader but a little bit slower.... than lilo

Zhou Yi 12-13-2004 12:25 PM

Sepero 12-13-2004 12:37 PM

Sorry if I seem a little rude, but if you want to make it in Gnu/Linux, you're going to have to learn how to find popular information like this yourself.

The basics of how a PC boots. This talks about lilo but grub is basically the same.

GRUB is a buggy boot loader (probably why it was named after an insect) Use LILO it is much more mature and stable. (My opinion anyway)

Ok, we've got 1 guy that like grub, and 1 guy that likes lilo.

My take? I've used both flawlessly.
lilo - a little easier to set up. small and simple.
grub - more powerful, more options, and never needs to be reloaded.

I went through the extra effort to start using grub because I believe that lilo is going the way of the dinosaur.

Ok... I admit I have been called one of those also :)

i think it's simple....
- lilo for a desktop pc/workstation
- grub for a server that has no floppy- or cd-drives.
