What is ghostscript and do I need it?

Trying to install print driver and the readme says something about Ghostscript integration.

There you go. View Wikipedia or Ghostscript site for more information.

So this ghostscript thing is not necessary for my printer to work? Is that correct?

Well it depends :) but for example a basic Windows installation comes without a ghostscript - it is available for Windows too - and it can print, so therefore it is not needed in order to print. If it was, it would probably be included in your system already.

EDIT: check out the FAQ at the Ghostscript site:

At least the "What is Ghostscript" question and it's answer.
