what is /etc/x11/gdm/gdm.conf ?

What else can i do in order to correct the gdm user configuration, so i can login in KDE enviroment? At the shell prompt, despite i login as root, the system won`t recognize me anymore.
Is all about KDE, because after i installed redhat, i was able to login, and see what redhat is about, but i think i did somenhing wrong, and now the KDE GUI doesn`t load, only that shell appear and after 3-4 logins pops me up with "incorrect login", and also after this a message warn me like this :the gdm user not found. please correct the gdm and try again" the gdm is located in the file above (see subject).
I mention that my userid and password are correct.

gdm.conf is just a configuration file for your desktop manager...basically your login prompt.

can you log in as a regular user? If so, then you might have the wrong password, or you mistyped it during the install. To recover a lost or forgotten password, see this link:

http://www.tldp.org/FAQ/Linux-FAQ/tr...-root-password

one other possibility is that gdm isn't allowing logins to root (this a good security precaution). This is easy enough to fix. Simply log in as a normal user, run your configuration program as root (if this is the problem you'll be able to log in as root then), and adjust the gdm configuration to allow logins as root (this may take some hunting, but I'm not in Redhat at the moment, so I can't give you more details.)
