What is cinnamon and how dose it work?

I recently read that cinnamon was a new look for Ubuntu 14.04. I was given the command code to install the program. I install the program. Nothing happened. I purged that install and re-installed the program. Still no change, The funny thing is. I now receive cinnamon update daily. Have I totally miss the boat on this one? Yes I am a New-bee and Iam happy to be. Having left Windows behind.

You need to logout, then choose cinnamon as the windowmanager, and login again.

Thanks for the help. Lucky for me I know that I had to click my user name on my desktop. In order to fine the log-out botton.
