What is best way to transfer files from Windows to Linux Ubuntu 14.04?

I have a new desktop purchased with Ubuntu 14.04 installed. It has a DVD drive and a usb drive. What device should be used to transfer files such as pictures and music files? Will file integrity be maintained between Windows files and Linux? I'm just starting out and am new to Linux. Thanks. Jeff

If you connect them both to a network, I would use WinSCP on your Windows machine to connect to your Linux machine. Simple and easy to use, and you have the option for a portable version that doesn't even require installation.

The files should be fine moving them between the two. I'd either use WinSCP like netnix99 said, or maybe you could setup a samba share on the Linux box, then connect to that from the PC, and copy your files to that. Lots of options.

Another option, that I use to transfer music albums between my Linux laptop and the Apple I use at work: I start sshd on the laptop and connect from the Mac with Filezilla.

I've used Filezilla in the past for web site building. I completely forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me EmaRsk.

You could try using partedmagic. Use the booted partedmagic cd disk from the linux computer to take off the data from the windoZe drive you have put in a caddy or perhaps internally in the tower. I have used partedmagic many times to transfer windows data between windozes mechines, it reads both 'linux' and win? and the caddy/cd avoids sending over a network.

Fred.
