What is the Affero Project?

Affero's software project was created to facilitate funding for Free Software and Open Source projects and to facilitate more effective dialogue among groups. For details on the roots of the project, read the Poole View. To see current community standings, visit affero.net.

The project has been built using PHP , PostgreSQL , and Smarty , and can be found running on Apache and GNU /Linux at affero.net Various individuals who host bulletin boards, forums and mailing lists have begun to integrate the service into their communities. Also, some individuals have expressed interest in using affero's rating and payment service in blogs and bug reporting systems. To learn more about integrating Affero into your community, join the affero-links mailing list to stay current on these developments.

Affero's software is openly available to any person or organization under the terms of the Affero General Public License .

"Its a nifty idea. Basically it seems that they want to make a few nickels off of getting frustrated users to give money to their helper geek's favorite cause. Affero makes penny fractions on the dollar that makes up for their overhead, the cause gets free cash, and the geek gets /.-esque karma points that will appeal to a lot of people's sense of competition. I like it.", Finegan,

so if I type in the console

rm -rf

that will give you affero points?

david_ross 11-05-2003 02:24 PM

erm... no.

Actually, David_Ross will only get affero points if that command helps (but please do not do it, you'll trash your system and I'll get kicked off for encouraging you):D.

If you feel that someone's reply to your query has helped and you wish to do more than simply thank the person, click the Affero button and choose to either donate some money or simply rate the poster (the link will show you what the button looks like).

Do a search on this forum for Affero and see what else has been written about it.
