Hello,

It is just a fully customized kernel made for more desktop applications, including gaming and multimedia. Why it is used by popular demand is because the kernel itself contains a lot of newer fixes and modules, which makes it more compatible in the long run.

Cheers,

Josh

It is definitely a modified version of the linux kernel, but it has been modified that much, hence the new name of it :P If it were not, then it would be considered a different OS, and you would have a whole new OS because of it.

And you love me, huh? Awe, thanks! LOL

To add to that, you should also check out the zen kernel. It is constantly worked on.

Pop into #smxi on OFTC and talk to damentz, he is the maintainer.

Crunchbang ships with the liquorix kernel.

CrunchBang Statler (the current release) ships with the Debian Squeeze 2.6.32 kernel. There is an older 2.6.36 Liquorix kernel in the CrunchBang repositories for some historical reason.

The current Liquorix kernel is incompatible with CrunchBang as far as I know (since it is designed for Debian Unstable and CrunchBang is based on Debian Stable).
