Unhappy What happens to files after upgrade?

This may sound like a dumb question, but i just wanted to make sure before i updated to Fedora Core 2....if you choose to UPDATE linux, what happens to all of my files? Is there anything i will lose? What precautions should i take before updating? And how is Fedora 2? Any major differences between it and Core 1?

Thanks alot, and sorry if this has been asked, i looked around for a while and didn't find a thread on this...

PS i LOVE linuxquestions.org!
