What does star mean beside a file


Hi guys, today for the first time, I saw star beside some files here it is

What do these stars represent? thank you

The asterisk means that the file is executable.

Try looking at the 'General output formatting' when you run:

welll actually this happened to me when I mistyped ls -l as

l -l
