What does pci=nommconf do?


Can anyone explain to me what this flag does exactly and how it works please. Thanks

According to Documentation/kernel_parameters.txt:

nommconf [X86-32,X86_64]
Disable use of MMCONFIG for PCI Configuration
This would normally be used only if you had some broken device on your PCI-bus... something with incorrect MCFG information in it.

mmconf is for memory mapped config space. pci=nommconf is not needed in most cases, but can resolve some issues if you have a buggy BIOS. Newer kernels seem to be able to work around a bad mmconf configuration from BIOS, it use to be that the kernel would hang with a bad mmconf and the pci=nommconf would work around that.
