What can you do at the command line?

Using Suse7 and now have installed on an old Compaq laptop which boots up at the command prompt, no GUI yet.

I was wondering what can you do at the command prompt.

I would like to listen to music, write sizable text letters and surf the internet, I have been told you can do everything that you do using the GUI, is that true?

Regards

It's nearly true. It's hard to edit graphic fils without GUI, but you can watch films, for example.
Music: cdp, mpg123 and many other players.
Text edition: joe, emacs, vim. You can also write in text mode with LaTeX tags and then convert it to PDF.
Web browsing: lynx, links.
Mail: pine etc.

Yep, watch movies with mplayer, so long as you have a framebuffer (read the docs).
