"what can emacs do that kate cannot?"

Hello guys,

I know that emacs has a steep learning curve. And kate is easier to learn... but can some emacs fan give me some motivation to try to learn emacs, so that I decide to go through the steep curve?

So, "what can emacs (as an editor) do that kate cannot?"

For example, I dont care that emacs can be used as a text editor as well. I dont care because we have applications like thunderbird or kmail which do an excellent job.

Thanks,

Diego

http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/ - have a look through the FAQs and other information. If you are happy with kate, why switch?

Emacs can brew your coffee, wash your clothes, and take your dog for a walk.

Sounds like someone's been sharing a spliff with Richard Stallman.
