What are these processes doing?

I am getting hammered, CPU wise, by a series of processes. Can anyone enlighten me as to what these are for? I seem to have a serious k problem.....
The main offenders are kjournald and kswapd, but any of these have spiked the CPU at one time or another.

Appears to be mainly your kernel processes along with your journaling filesystem processes, don't kill them, unless you like fixing your system..
