What are seahorse and gnome-keyring-manager? What do they?
 

I use Debian. After a recent install of Squeeze I was confronted with a pop-up window demanding that I open my keyring by typing my keyring password (or something) . I had never seen this before and I had no idea what a keyring is or why I should want one, or how I seem to have acquired one (with a password I have no recollection of ever having selected). In a second attempt at install I did something differently and the demand pop-up has gone away, but I worry that it may come back, and I wonder if I might be missing out on a really nice feature. So where can I learn more. Not more nitty gritty pointy clicky, but some discussion of why I might want to know about this, and why it might be worthwhile to have this functioning correctly on my box. (I have already found a thread here telling how to disable it. But I worry that Gnome Developers will discover that their baby is being killed by too many users and change where the disable stuf is hidden. And maybe it really is a beutiful baby.)

Where can you learn more? Write down the exact messages you get, the titles of the dialog windows that come up, etc. Google those phrases surrounded by double quotes. This will teach you what you need to know. It might lead you to something else, that leads you to something else, but you'll find what you need. If there is absolutely nothing out there, you can post here or some similar forum. This is how I have solved lots of problems both Windoze and *nix.

Seahorse is an application that manages PGP-keys, gnome-keyring-manager is an application that manages your passwords.
