what are options for resizing a partition?
 

Hi All,

For some reason I can not get gparted live CD to boot on my PC. It gives me a failed response, and tells me to boot in "force VGA mode", but when I do that I still get the failed message and it will not boot.

When I open gparted while running LinuxMint I can see all my partitions, but it will not allow me to change any of them.

Am I missing something, or is there another way to accomplish this?

It really is easiest from the liveCD - no issues with mounted partitions.
Download it again and md5 it before burning it.

Of course it doesn't do LVM - you'll have to handle that yourself.

The partitions that you are going to resize have to be unmounted. If gparted livecd doesn't work for you, try a different livecd. I don't know all the ones that have them, but at least zenwalk-live and ubuntu comes with gparted. Some distro automatically mount the drives, so when you launch gparted, right-click on the partition(s) you want to resize and unmount it/them. After that, you can begin your resizing.
