What *nux do I need?

Hi all, I come from the land of windows and I'm trying my hand at using linux.

Right now I'm trying to make a dual boot on a computer with 2 separate IDE hdds.

On one is XP Home SP2, on the other is Ubuntu Server 7.10.

Since I know next to nothing about linux I'm thinking maybe I should try a GUI based version.

These are what I need from it:
Web Page Hosting
SSH Host
Filesharing
Email host

Can I do this from a version of *nux with a gui?
System requirements are definitely not an issue.

Also, I'm having troubles getting the dual boot to work.
For some reason grub wont recognize my second HDD, any ideas?
First post!

Thanks,
SS

All linux distro can do as you want. As for gui they all can have guis or many different types ranging from KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox, Windowmaker, and many others. Now what you would be after a gui tool that can configure the server config files. Each distro do their own gui tools. Some have them some may not. They have their own special addons. You can use google to find extra config tools that can be installed on many distros to configure them as needed. One of the more popular one is webmin. Default webmin can do all the above plus if using other servers than the default there may be thrid party addons.

For grub it might help to fully explain the issue and what you want. Post info like the grub.conf file contents pointing out what you have and what you want. Also posting partition table and what each one is and what you wish to have out of it. Not sure why you would want grub on the second drive. To me the first drive MBR is where I place mine. Are you somehow swapping drives on the cable or through bios to make the other first or something.

Thanks for your reply!

Alright so I can use whatever distro I like the most and the tools such as webadmin should work with all of them. That's great!

At this point I think it'll be unwise to post information from any files if I'm going to be switching versions of *nux.

Which do you use? And which GUI based version would you use for a server regardless of whether or not they can all perform all the functions.

Thanks,
-SS

I always perferred Redhat type distros. Current would be Fedora or Centos. Debian based distros are said to be more secure. For a server it runs better with no gui running. For a gui I use KDE and fluxbox sometimes of light systems. I myself do most config changing in the terminal console and edit manually.

I tried typing into the terminal "sudo apt-get install webmin" and it told me the package is not available, but is referred to by another package. What do I need to type to install what I need for the services I mentioned in my first post?

Thanks,
SS
