What 'flavour' of unix am I using?

Hi there, which "flavour" and version of linux I am running? Below I see GNU/Linux which I understand to be a linux kernel and the free GNU operating system. But someone definitely said I had "debian" installed(?)

Code:
root@sdptfw:~ # uname -a
Linux sdptfw.sdpt.co.za 2.4.36 #1 Tue Jul 22 13:13:24 GMT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
root@sdptfw:~ # ls /
backups bin boot dev etc home initrd lib lost+found mnt proc root sbin swapfile tmp usr var

root@sdptfw:~ # uname -s
Linux (kernal name)
root@sdptfw:~ # uname -o
GNU/Linux (operating system)
root@sdptfw:~ # uname -v
#1 Tue Jul 22 13:13:24 GMT 2008 (os or kernal version)
root@sdptfw:~ # uname -r
2.4.36 (os or kernal release)

okay I think I've got it.
So the flavour I am using is GNU/LINUX where the linux kernal is version 2.4.36 and the GNU OS sitting on top of that is version 3.3.3 -
Is my line of thought correct?

Code:
root@sdptfw:~ # cat /etc/issue
IPCop v1.4.21 - The Bad Packets Stop Here

root@sdptfw:~ # cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.4.36 (root@barton) (gcc version 3.3.3) #1 Tue Jul 22 13:13:24 GMT 2008

root@sdptfw:~ #
(ipcop is the firwall that is running on the network)

really?? as in IPCOP is comparable to debian?? ie they're each a linux distribution(?), so I can say "no I didn't install debian, I installed IPCOP"

...wow - I'm sorry to ask - but are you sure about this? (not that I know any better... I'm just surprised at the answer)

yes i did, but when I read "The IPCop Firewall is a Linux firewall distribution" ...the word "firewall" got me confused.

If it had said "IPCop is a LINUX distribution" I would have accepted it easily. But I've never heard of a FIREWALL being a distribution, but only as a feature which sits within a distribution.

Perfect, thanks that's really useful. I'm onto both URLs right now.

Enjoy the rest of your day and thank-you once again for your time.

I can't explain that statement as I have heard of such a distro before, may be you start a new thread for understanding its meaning.

I was just wonderin michellepace if IPCOP is what you were seeking in a Linux distro?
meaning I was just wonderin how/why you have it?
you just got a computer that already had IPCOP or what?
or is it part of your job?
thx
