what's file permission for this?

hi..

i'd like to open a ftp..
(simply run ftp demmon =) )

i'd like to give the permission to the directory
so that users can download/upload but not delete..
can i do this?

and another question..
how do i make a user with no password?
so that i can give the username to my friends..

and last question..
is it same as ftp server to run a web server in linux?
(just run httpd?)
then where should i put html files for the web site?

To make user with no password: useradd user.
Http question: yes, it's the same. Usually web directory is /var/www/html or /home/http or similar (just look into documentation).

Even though a password-less user can sound like a good idear, i'd really at least make a simple password and just give it to them all. It's still alot more secure that way. Then, as you asked, you can give permission to a directory for just them by adding a new group or doing a 'recursive' chmod (which will do the dir and everything in it) at like 444 to the dir to make it globally readable etc...
