what's up with Openlinux?

I'm new to the Linux world and was wondering why I am having trouble finding apps and such tailored to OpenLinux. Is there another release that is compatible as far as rpms go? Am I just using some obsolete release? I was able to upgrade XFree86 but not to current release because I have old glibc.I tried to upgrade glibc but only found redhat,Suse,Debian and the like.I also have an old redhat disc but had problems with the install so I chose the easier OpenLinux. Any advice would be appreciated
