WG111v2 PROBLEM

hey guys, im new to linux Im running fedora Core 6 and i must say Im not touching a windows machine ever again. But i have one problem with my new love linux is that i cant get my wireless usb Netgear WG111v2 to work, and i swear ive read everylast thread on every linux forum in the last 10 days about every possible problem with these USB adapters and ive found nothing similar to my problem and iv done everything thats ever been suggest on other problems to make sure everything is smicko, but my rpoblem still persists after kenerl rebuilds with 16k stacks used mulitple drivers and even altered drivers so that they install defaults to my values, the problem:

nidswrapper installs no pro, driver installs no pro, driver and hardware presnt all good, depmod, no erros, modprobe (-m and without).. blue light flashs once (odd)
create new device through linux admin networks all good, active and this is it " failed- check cable?"

someone please help me im almost bald from all this and really dont want to go back to windows just because my usb is being a pain

cheers michael

A few months back I went thru this same thing. I can't remember the model of the adapter I had, but yours sounds hauntingly familiar. As you probably discovered reading the threads, they will make the same model of those adapters using different chips, and to get the right driver you often have to go down to the revs and serial number ranges, etc. Even then I guess there are some adapters that Just Won't Work no matter what you do.

I threw in the towel after a couple of weeks of dicking around with it and got a PCI network adapter. It plugged and played. Not an answer to your question but I thought I would share the painful experience and my eventual solution.

Steve
