Weird Linux error


I just loaded linux on my machine
Stats:
AMD 1.3ghz Duron
512mb PC2100 DDR
ATI RADEON 8500 64mb
ONBOARD SOUND VIA 97' AUDIO

And everytime i load in to kde it gives me a error that sound could not be loaded cpu overloaded... How do i fix this?

what distro/version of linux are you using? kde is probably complaining because your sound is not configured correctly this most likely means probing for sound modules which is very easy once we know which distro you are using, at the worst, we will need to recompile your kernel which also isnt a big deal but may take some time to learn

o sorry i am using college linux 2.5, how ould i re configure my sound card if its onboard sound?

hhhmmm college linux is based off of slackware, so you may be SOL as far as a utility but perhaps try sndconfig if that doesnt work then you need to consult the guide to recompiling your kernel that is stickied to the top of the linux-general forum

I havent used slackware in a long time hence my insecurity as to a definite answer on what/if for the sound utility you may be best off searching the college linux website for clues on getting your sound working, however if you can recompile your kernel to add support then that is imho the best and most assured way of getting it to work

i know during the setup it ran this app that was made by red hat to get the sound card up and runing and it did detect the sound card it just wont work. But where can i find the steps on how to comple a kernal becuase i know the last time i did it it didnt work...

Just in case this could help. I have no knowledge of it myself, I was just searching around.

I copied this out of an old post, the guy said it worked for him, that is to say it stopped the "cpu overload" error for him.

In control center, sound ,sound server, Sound I/O. Try unchecking Enable full duplex operation.
