Weird boot issue

Have ASUS A85XM-A, Toshiba DT01ACA050, HPmonitor W2072a. I was running windows 7 home premium 64 bit, and when I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon I allowed it to erase the disk
to just use Linux, which I love, and have a lot to learn. My problem is on start up.
ASUS comes up normally, but then monitor says going to sleep, which it doesnt. I then get
a blank screen for a few minutes before linux comes on. Everything shuts down perfectly
when I am finished. Its just something weird with startup. I am no computer expert, so if
someone could give me simple instructions I would greatly appreciate it.

I think that the problem you have is that your monitor's firmware is re-setting every time you boot up. Not a problem, but not perfection either. You do not need to worry about it unless you are using it for public exhibitions of an 'ideal system'.

Welcome aboard.

Sounds like you have the 'quiet' option set in your start up config, it just hides what is being reported by the system starting up, that is quite normal to take a minute or two before your desktop appears.
