Weird Black out??

Ok, so I installed MD9.1 and everything's running smoothly. The only hitch is that my video card on my laptop wasn't supported, so I'm using a VESA driver, which doesn't matter because I don't do any gaming... here's the problem i'm having:

Whenever my comp's been running for about 30 min or so (i haven't timed it) my screen shuts off. I of course assumed this was due to the
APM settings on my laptop which I shut off. However, it still does it. My attached mouse and/or keyboard will not wake up the computer, but if i use the touch pad or the menu key (and only the menu key) on the embedded keyboard, it'll wake up and everything's kosher. Is this a weird fluke of K-laptop power management settings? I tried playing with those settings but that caused my computer to suspend to where i was not able to "bring it back to life", so to speak. I had to do a hard reboot, which isn't good. Anyway, lemme know if anyone has any thoughts... could it be my video card settings?

do you perhaps have ACPId running/ ACPI support running? This is totally seperate from APM but does the same things.
