webmin - How to install?

So tonight I have been trying to install webmin...I downloaded from there site (The deb package which I believe is the correct one?) and thats on my desktop. ( I have a LAMP server with xubuntu running till I get used to working with cli - I know not the best way but one has to learn in stages sometimes).

So with no luck there in installing - I looked around there site and found I could do it from there repository..

there instructions were to edit /etc/apt/sources.list and add there download address. SO after figuring I had to install gedit first I finally got the file edited as per there instructions.

I then moved to the next part
Quote:

You will now be able to install with the commands :
apt-get update
apt-get install webmin
Now I haven't as yet tried the first of those two commands though I have tried the second like so

sudo apt-get install webmin - No install - message that it couldn't find the package
sudo aptitude install webmin - same again - couldn't find package

So I'm stuck as to what to do next....

And please don't say 'just install the package on my desktop' sorry to be obtuse but in all honesty I don't know how. If someone would kindly explain how I do that then that would be appreciated. (Yes I'm a total cl newbie - actually a total newbie to Linux period)..

So question is (Or Request is) How To install?

Basically I need some step by step instructions on it which I have been unable to find...

BTW The package I downloaded I was given the instruction to type
sudo dpkg --install webmin_1.360_all.deb

This gives me the instruction that dpkg: command not found

Which is why I tried the other way..

Any help appreciated, thanks

Edit: AHHH!! What an idiot I am - I had to use the first command (the update one) and then the second to install.
Seems to be installing now..

Always the same - you give up ask a question and then figure it out - I dunno noobs eh ..

Sorry to bother you

Thanks

Glad you got it resolved ... this response is primarily to
stop the post from auto-bumping :]
